the Karovas Milkshake -In the Shade of the Purple Sun LP January 2016
GROO0052LP

"In The Shade of the Purple Sun" is exactly the sort of fairytale concoction you'd expect to emerge from the same minds as that introduction, with its attractively lurid sleeve hinting further at the delights within, with little in the way of subtlety, but plenty of finesse. The Karovas Milkshake aren't new to this game - their debut E.P was released in 2010 - and their experience shows with this fine release. It's one for the revivalists who savour vintage production techniques, over new innovations, and approached from this angle,
there's plenty to savour here. An obvious love for vintage U.K psychedelia of the mid to late sixties is used as a starting point, with many other period appropriate appropriations helping to diversify "In The Shade of the Purple Sun" beyond the ambitions of many like-minded artists.
"Purple Sun of Glastonbury" is probably the most overtly psychedelic track here, and almost certainly the best. Led by a Brian Jones worthy sitar riff, and a tribal vocal chant, it exerts a hypnotic charm that could last all day as far as I'm concerned.
The backwards guitar section in the middle is an expertly manipulated, "Revolver"esque treat,
and the catchy 'ba ba ba' pop outro digs its hooks in irresistibly. So much has happened on the journey from point a to b that it's hard to believe we're still listening to the same song.
The highest recommendation I can give is that picking that particular highlight was not an easy task. There's much more to love here, from the bluesy "Howl" (check out the Robbie Krieger guitars!), to the flawless freakbeat of "When The Night Falls", to the sublimely ridiculous, Syd Barret-on-speed "Apple Pie".

THE ROUTES - SKELETONS - LP
GROO0050LP

The Routes will always hold a special place in my twisted heart ‘cuz they were the first band to give me a shot at doing their album cover. That was back in 2011 for their second LP, Alligator. That ain’t the reason why I’m trying to sell you the band though. The reason I’m trying to sell you the band is far more simple; the Routes are one of, if not THE best garage outfit out there today, and their new album SKELETONS just confirms it. So forget about the bands hiding their inadequacies behind tons of effects and divert your attention with their flashy costumes. Forget about the bands who claim to be a garage band, but play a wimpy mix of shoegaze and light pop. You can even forget about the multitude of garage bands who got the right idea and gear but fail to deliver. This is the real deal! Eleven songs that only rely on raw talent, raw power, and raw productio (and the scuzziest fuzz guitar sound you’ve ever heard) to deliver some of the best garage punk tunes this side of ’66. Yet, unlike many of their 60s counterparts, the Routes managed more than a one hit wonder, as you’ll rapidly realise listening to Skeletons. The album is simply full of memorable tunes, bursting with pissed-off energy and earworm melodies (and the scuzziest fuzz guitar sound you’ve ever heard), and the Routes’ highly distinguishable sound. So play that record already, and get ready to blow the cobwebs off your speakers with the stompin’, grindin’ sound (and the scuzziest fuzz guitar sound you’ve ever heard) of the Routes!

  THE DYNA JETS – SHE’S MAGNETIC 10”LP – GROO047-10LP
GROO047-10LP

The Future Primitives are gone, they left a path of destruction and 3 Lp’s with music that blowed the brains of many around the globe. A tour in Europe that burned a lot of stage’s and made you swet and scream like a demented. Now from the ashes of that South African trio, Johnny Tex (guitar) and Warren Fisher (drums) formed this duo to continue the flame and crazyness alive, the formula almost remain the same since Future Primitives. Johnny Tex screaming guitar fueled with echo and diabolic rhythm brings a full hand of new songs influenced more by the 50’s Link Wray or the 80’s Cramps. Haunted songs and mutated rhythms by the voodoo drums of Warren Fisher makes The Dyna Jets a infernal rhythm machine that gonna turn your bones to dust. Hell yeahhhh!!!

GROO0115S

1968, in the Brazilian dictatorship, FÁBIO released this psychedelic gemm
LSD (Lindo Sonho Delirante), writed by him and Carlos Imperial.
A soul / garage floor killer till today. Besides the alucinated rhythm, the song
was na explicit provocation to the political society of the 60’s.
The artwork leaves no doubt of the sugestive content with A huge LSD letring on the top of the sleeve.
LSD – LINDO SONHO DELIRANTE (BEAUTYFUL TRYPING DREAM).
