THE
ELECTRIC MESS-FALLING OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH-LP - MAY/JUNE
2012
New York City-based band, The Electric Mess, will release its
second album, "Falling Off the Face of the Earth," on
vinyl, May, 2012, on the Groovie Records label (Os Haxixins, Lana
Loveland).
Since forming in 2007, The Electric Mess have developed into an
exciting and tight rock n' roll band, led by an androgynous and
dynamic lead singer, Chip Fontaine (aka Esther Crow).
The Huffington Post has said "The Electric Mess entertain
as a unit and still keep the music heads happy with their solid
musicianship, a "too cool for words" repertoire, and
one of the most electrifying front men I have ever seen."
The Electric Mess' self-titled debut album, which featured the
songs "You've Become a Witch," "Trash Talkin' Woman,"
and "She Has a Funny Walk," received excellent reviews
and made numerous "Best of 2010" lists. All 13 of its
tracks continue to be played on U.S., international and internet
radio stations, including Rodney Bingenheimer's "Rodney on
the ROQ" (KROQ, Los Angeles), "Little Steven's Underground
Radio Show" (Sirius/XM) and "Nights with Alice Cooper"
(syndicated radio show).
Upon its release, Shindig! said: "There are a wide range
of influences, including British Invasion, 60's garage, R&B,
and psych, but it sure ain't a mess...a very tight unit with bunch
of strong tunes possessing a fine, melodic edge."
All-Music Guide gave it "**** of 5 stars: "(The Electric
Mess) have the vintage approach and feel, they can write great
songs, and the band isn't afraid to hit ‘em hard and make
their music move....Anyone who wonders if there's anything left
to be said on the garage revival scene ought to give The Electric
Mess' debut a listen."
Like their debut album, "Falling Off the Face of the Earth"
was recorded at The Church in Brooklyn, engineered and mixed by
David Horowitz, and mastered by punk legend Ivan Julian (Richard
Hell and the Voidoids).

OS
TARTAROS - THE FIRST PORTUGUESE SURF GARAGE BAND - 1964-1967 -
LP
In the early 1960s, when rock ‘n’ roll started dying
in Portugal, a new fad was already here. Hailing from the UK and
headed by Cliff Richard, fast upstaged by his supporting band
The Shadows, this would be the first ‘British Invasion’.
An entire generation quickly fell under its influence and all
across the country dozens of bands were formed, playing rock-based
guitar-driven instrumental songs with catchy tunes that were often
adaptations of traditional songs. Oblivious to what was happening
abroad, the Portuguese press dubbed them ‘Shadows-influenced
instrumental bands’. This was the context in which Os Tártaros
were formed in an Oporto garage. This LP compiles all the 4 ep's
from the band. A very important document and the first anthology
of a 60's rock band. Os Tartaros shows also a few tracks in the
PORTUGUESE NUGGETS compilations. Other bands will be rereleased
by Groovie in the times to come.

THE THUNDERBEATS - I
WANNA TAKE YOU DOWN - CONFUSION - GROO0107CS
OUT NOW!!!
Along with The Cavestompers these
guys are probably the best band from the cold Russian big city,
Moscow. The Kinks mixed with psychedelic emotions, The Birds and
The Small Faces in bed with the best "back from the grave"
R'n'B, garage punk, and all the 60's best songs together in the
same room. They put your head around and around and around and around.

LOS
EXPLOSIVOS - GARAGE MEXICANO MUITO FUDIDO - GROO030LP
Still the memory hole on the timing
of appearance of Los Explosivos, way back in 2009 I had the opportunity
to get they first record and still a 7'', edited by Slovenly the
first and the second by Groovie Records.
After these years the quality remains high and is now released
a LP, again by Groovie Records, "Garage Mexicano Muito Fudido"
that is a record with incredible tunes.
Perhaps the biggest difference between this and the other is the
way it was recorded, mainly as mastered/produced and there is
should be noted the hand of Nick Nicotine, from King studios in
Barreiro (Portugal), and I say this because is known the contamination
of quality for the climate that existed.
As for the tunes here are catchy, with a frenetic pace somewhere
between the current American garage-punk with flavors of vintage
'60s rock'n'roll.
However the main difference is that the Los Explosives do not
make concessions to age. There no harmonies, the inclusion of
keyboards on "Tu Amor" version of The Troggs is accomplished
without dramatic changes of pace and all the other songs are threshed
ending always in the most assaults of fuzz.
Among the original I highlight "No Hay Vuelta Atras",
largely due to the psychedelic terminating extension.
"Garage Mexicano Muito Fudido" is one record that literally
fucks the ears because of the way and unique sound, a diamond
that we have and the have not is because they do not know how
fucked up will be in the future.

BRAZILIAN NUGGETS-BACK
FROM THE JUNGLE vol1!!
LP
This project is nothing than a homage for
those who fighted for rock n’ roll in Brazil during the
60’s and the mid 70’s. The tracks on this 3 volumes
compilations are mostly from very obscure bands, most of them
where not even part of the “JOVEM GUARDA” movement.
So don’t expect to find here Roberto Carlos, Jerry Adriani
or Erasmo Carlos, between other big artists of the time. Here
you only gonna find the most wild and raw garage, psych and strange
rock n’ roll approach, embedded in FUZZ and screamings that
you ever listen to. These records, mostly, have been released
in unknown labels, like California Records, RCS, FAMA, LEAO DISC,
YOUNG, INSPIRAÇÃO, etc.
The most part of those labels were from
outside the big cities. Brazil have always been a big country,
most of the states, something like what happen in USA at same
time, had their own labels to release local rock bands. The Blobs,
Os Nativos, Lup e Loy, Os Espiões, The Rocking Fevers,
and many, many others were something like outsiders among “Jovem
Guarda” movement. So here we are, giving a chance to people
who want to know more about what happened during the 60’s
in these incredible country that is Brazil.
The first 3 volumes of these vinyl comps
will be released soon, artwork by the well known canadian artist,
DARREN MERINUK. So keep your eyes on this and don’t loose
this for nothing. The records will bring a lot of texts, never
seen photos, among other curiosities.
Brazil is not only
good in football and samba… the Fuzz lives there too!!!

LOVELAND - ORDER TO LOVE
- LP
(also available in white vinyl - 100 copies only)
Up to now we've
known her as the FUZZTONES' keyteaser and former BONNIWELL MUSIC
MACHINE organist, but LOVELAND's debut single shows her to be
a gifted vocalist and songwriter as well as an accomplished musician.
The two original tracks, "Black Glove" and "Missing
Illusions" (written 1995 by Loveland and guitarist Lenny
Svilar) are from her upcoming smash album, "Order To Love"!
What do they sound like? Something like a supergroup comprised
of various Strawberry Alarm Clock, Music Machine, Doors and Seeds
alumni. Lenny Svilar contributing some fine psych guitar and Rudi
Protrudi displaying his impressive bass skills, while drummer
Alex Tenas is completing the vibes with his superlative West Coast
inspired percussive flair. Lana sings and plays soulful, sexy,
and sultry!
A psychotropic experience!
